Goldfields Healthcare

Admissions Process

Admissions to Goldfields Healthcare are processed exclusively through referral from a registered healthcare professional.

Goldfields Healthcare does not accept self-referrals or walk-in admissions. All admissions must be initiated by a registered healthcare professional.

Referral to Admission Process

The following outlines the clinical pathway from referral through to inpatient admission at Goldfields Healthcare.

STEP 01

Referral Submission

A registered healthcare professional (GP or specialist) submits a referral on behalf of the patient. Only referrals from registered healthcare professionals will be processed. Self-referrals are not accepted.

STEP 02

Clinical Review

The Goldfields Healthcare clinical team reviews the referral to assess clinical appropriateness and determine placement. A clinician may contact the referring practitioner for additional information if required.

STEP 03

Medical Aid Authorisation

Following clinical approval, medical aid pre-authorisation is obtained where applicable. The admissions team will liaise with the relevant medical scheme on behalf of the referring practitioner.

STEP 04

Admission

An admission date is confirmed with the referring practitioner. Required documentation must be submitted prior to or on the day of admission. The patient completes the intake process upon arrival.

STEP 05

Inpatient Care

The patient participates in structured therapeutic programmes and receives multidisciplinary inpatient care throughout their stay under the supervision of the admitting clinician.

Emergency Admissions

In the case of an emergency admission, please get in touch with our facility as soon as possible so that we can assist where we can.

There is a psychiatrist as well as a psychologist on-call for emergencies.

Should the patient be referred outside these hours, the psychiatrist will see the patient as soon as possible the next day.

In the event of an emergency admission (outside normal office hours), our facility will assist with obtaining an authorization on the first following working day.

Very Important

It remains the patient's responsibility to confirm their benefits available with their medical scheme.

In the case of an after-hours emergency or weekend admission, a refundable deposit will be required for the interim period until authorization has been obtained. The Case manager will assist the patient with this process as soon as possible within office hours.
